The latests virus protection is availble to Comcast subscribers at: http://security.comcast.net

Totally free, and the same protection I have been selling to clients for yers. Norton is top drawer protection. If you have Comcast, you need this...

Personally I am not that impressed with Norton. I have installed it on my wifes laptop (through comcast) and it is resource hog!! I also had a customers laptop with Norton 360 and the Sonar piece would not work. The only way to resolve it was to uninstall and reinstall. After doing research on this item, I found out it is a known issue and that is Symantec's answer to resolve the issue. Again, not impressed, I would never purchase the product...

I dislike Norton as well. Bloated system hog that might cause problems as noted.

If you want free malware, you can get one from Mr. Gates that I've been using with reasonable success so far.

It's still free. I have had nothing but good results with it. It can be a resource pig, but I don't have anything with less than 4 G of RAM, so, it's sort of nil...

But, like I said, it's free.

Better yet, download the free version of av antivirus. It detects and blocks way more than norton, and is not a resource hog. http://www.free-av.com/

Being the pessimist that I am, and my ISP once providing 'free' anti-virus... be wary. No such thing as a free lunch and they might, down the road in a few months, start charging you $5 a month for the free anti-virus like my ISP did a while back. (No longer with them).

The Free AVG is okay, but it seems to detect but not remove viruses. Removal is a more manual process from my experiences with it.

Another thought on AV protection is, eSet NOD32. Not a resource hog does a good job at virus and malware removal. Updates come out more than once a day when the need arises where Norton (Symantec) might do it just once a day. Symantec just let too much through and is, IMHO poor on spyware and other malware. Based in the center of the viri and malware arena (Slovakia) seems they get a good jump on new stuff coming out. Kaspersky is good also, but for my company we didn't buy because he used to be a KGB agent (factual), a Russian company and who knows what's in his code.

My .02 cents anyway for whatever it is worth. Lots to choose from.

Except that Comcast was previously offering McAfee free for years. They have just changed the offering to Norton. Who knows though, Comcast may start charging for it.

Norton is good protection. Is it the best? I don't know. Is it the worst. Absolutely not.

I have had lots of issues with Norton suites in the past. We'll see how the newer product works.
